How It All Started

Happy Hours have a history back to Prohibition when people went to speakeasy's for a cocktail before they went out to dinner at an estblishment that did not serve alcohol. After Prohibition, cocktail lounges were opened to continue the practice of drinking before dinner.

The term 'Happy Hour' comes from our friends of the United States Navy. During the 1920's they hosted performances on board the ships. During the performances some of the sailors would become slightly drunk or 'happy'. Hip Hip Horray for the boys in uniform for coining such a term.

Today happy hours can be found every where. Typically they last a few hours starting at the end of the work day (roughly 4:00PM). During this period of time there are drink and food specials (this makes me happy).

Because drink and food specials make me happy, I will be looking for them throughout Cleveland and Northeast Ohio and letting you know about all of the happy hour oasis' that I find.
